Maria Menounos reveals she’s recovering from pancreatic cancer

Maria Menounos has disclosed that she is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer.

The former "E! News" correspondent claims that last summer was when she first started to feel odd. After an MRI revealed a mass, she was given a stage 2 pancreatic cancer diagnosis in January. She had surgery, having all of her spleen and a portion of her pancreas removed, and is now cancer-free, Menounos said on "Today."

She emphasized how crucial early detection is.

Menounos noted that despite having abdominal pain, she had Type 1 diabetes at the time of her initial diagnosis. The lump on her pancreas was discovered when a friend recommended she undergo a full-body MRI when she was out with friends.

After a biopsy determined it was cancerous, she immediately had surgery. Thankfully, she did not need to have chemotherapy, Menounos said.

She has experienced health scares before. In 2017, she had treatment for a brain tumor.

Through a surrogate, Menounos and her husband Keven Undergaro are expecting a daughter.
