Elon Musk to be subpoenaed for documents in Virgin Islands' Epstein lawsuit against JPMorgan

In its lawsuit alleging JPMorgan Chase & Co. of knowing profiting from Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking, the US Virgin Islands issued a subpoena to Elon Musk.

In court documents, the U.S. territory claimed it had evidence that Epstein might have recommended or attempted to recommend Musk as a customer of JPMorgan. The USVI has also sent subpoenas to several other billionaires, including Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Tesla Inc.'s CEO addressed the subpoena on Twitter in reaction to a published piece, calling it "idiotic." Musk's attorney Alex Spiro did not respond to inquiries regarding the subpoena via email.

This is idiotic on so many levels:

1. That cretin never advised me on anything whatsoever.

2. The notion that I would need or listen to financial advice from a dumb crook is absurd.

3. JPM let Tesla down ten years ago, despite having Tesla’s global commercial banking…

On Monday, the USVI requested that a different method be used to serve Musk with the subpoena dated April 28. The territory claimed to have used reasonable faith attempts, including engaging private investigators, to track out Musk's address but had been unsuccessful.

The region claimed that it also made an attempt to assist Musk at Tesla's offices. The USVI requested authorization to serve the subpoena directly on Tesla.

The USVI subpoena requests any records of conversations or discussions between Musk and JPMorgan or between Musk and Epstein regarding the two men's bank accounts. Additionally, it asks Musk for any documents "regarding Epstein's involvement in human trafficking" or about any fees the Tesla CEO paid to Epstein or JPMorgan about his bank accounts.

Government of the United States Virgin Islands v. JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A. is the matter. It is located in the Southern District of New York (Manhattan), and the case number is 22-cv-10904.
