Norma Hunt, who as the wife of the late Kansas City Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt attended all 57 Super Bowl games, has died, the Hunt family announced in a statement released by the team.
Age-wise, she was 85. The reason of death was not disclosed.
According to the Hunts' statement, mom was "kind,
generous, and unfailingly positive." Her enthusiasm for life and joy were
contagious. She cherished providing for others, and she never failed to offer
supportive words. She was a devoted friend, the ideal hostess, and she
possessed a special talent for making everyone she came into contact with feel
important and at ease.
"Mom was extremely passionate about her family's sports
teams and staunchly committed to her family. She supported our father Lamar
through every step of the process, through the AFL and NFL merger, the creation
of Major League Soccer, the North American Soccer League, the World
Championship Tennis, and their initial investment in the Chicago Bulls. Only
she, as far as we were aware, shared his passion for athletics. Whether at home
or in stadium stands around the world, the two of them experienced tremendous
happiness together.
Patrick Mahomes, the starting quarterback for the Chiefs,
tweeted his sympathy.
Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL, said in a
statement that he had known Hunt for than 40 years and had always been
"struck by her warmth and grace."
"Norma's sense of family extended to the Chiefs' organization,
which she greatly adored," read the statement. "Norma was one of the
most ardent supporters of the Chiefs and the NFL; she was knowledgeable about
and delighted in every facet of the game. She described the team's members as
"real-life superheroes" and enjoyed being around them. Norma was the
only woman to see every Super Bowl ever played, including the two recent
victories by the Chiefs.
Hunt passed away in 2006. Since then, the Chiefs' chairman
has been their son Clark.
