Following the year-defining successes of Succession and Barry, arguably the two greatest television programs of the twenty-first century, HBO is stepping into contentious waters with The Idol while armed with its relaunched streaming service, Max.


The new show, created by Sam Levinson of Euphoria and Assassination Nation, has finally made it to television after a lengthy production period and a riot of negative early reviews. One critic even referred to the show as a "Pornhub-homepage odyssey."
