Morning Joe dumps on 'hateful' Trump for leaving his 'stain' on Memorial Day
The "Morning Joe" anchor said Trump went out of his way to send the most "disrespectful" message imaginably and included the Truth Social post as one of the former president's worst holiday statements.
Co-host Mika Brzezinski said that President [Joe] Biden's most likely 2024 opponent, Donald Trump, "had a less reflective Memorial Day message." The former president made a comparison to the nation's fallen heroes on his social media website, wishing a happy Memorial Day too, quote, "those in line of a very different but equally dangerous fire stopping the threats of terrorists, misfits, and lunatic thugs who are working feverishly from within to overturn and destroy our once great country."
Joe, it's horrible," Brzezinski continued. I don't really know what to say, to be honest. I suppose it's an improvement over what he previously stated about our martyrs.
Scarborough claimed that Trump has a history of disparaging those who had given their lives in the line of duty and questioning their motivation for doing so.
In a 2020 piece in The Atlantic, he essentially referred to men and women who gave their best as "suckers," according to Scarbrough. It's been his approach to it ever since. He disdains people who would give their lives in defense of their nation. Again, we are not shocked by anything Donald Trump says. I would admit that I'm shocked that there are still a lot of Americans who, at the very least, tell pollsters that they would still back this man. He tries to be as unpleasant and disrespectful as he can, regardless of the occasion—whether it's Memorial Day, Mother's Day, the Fourth of July, or anything else."
Again, he said, "I'm not, you know, catastrophizing here. He simply reminded me of what I had said earlier: there were Republicans who were adults. Most people would never act in such a way, but the party's current leader is the most terrible person and has always been cruel, staining even holidays like Memorial Day where we should remember the soldiers who sacrificed everything in war and throughout the globe so we might be free.
