explanation!
CNN has parted ways with longtime host Don Lemon. The announcement Monday came without explanation and astonished the media industry
Lemon tweeted, "I am stunned," after learning he had been fired from his agent.
Lemon, who co-hosted CNN's morning show, was "parting ways" with the network, which added, "We wish him well."
It comes after remarks made by Lemon on Live that Nikki Haley, a Republican, was not "in her prime" at age 51.
The firing also follows another significant US media exit. Fox News made the announcement that primetime personality Tucker Carlson was leaving the network just before Lemon's announcement.
Lemon has been a stalwart of the network for a long time;
most recently, he co-hosted CNN's This Morning show. But he got into trouble earlier this year for remarks he made about Nikki
Haley, a Republican candidate for president who is also the governor of South
Carolina and a former UN ambassador. Lemon's statement in February that Ms. Haley was not
"in her prime" was widely criticized as misogynistic. "In her 20s, 30s, and possibly her 40s," he
continued, "when a woman is considered to be in her prime." In response to concerns from his female co-hosts Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan
Collins, he continued, "I'm just saying what the facts are; Google
it." The following day, Lemon released a statement in which he
expressed sorry for his "inartful and irrelevant" remarks.
Additionally, he expressed regret to the journalists and consented to take part
in "mandatory training" to deal with the issue. However, the statements drew harsh criticism from several people, including 60-year-old actress Michelle Yeoh, who made an apparent
reference to them in her Oscar acceptance speech last month when she said,
"Ladies, don't let anybody tell you you're ever past your prime."
