Alito Believes He Knows The Identity Of SCOTUS Leaker, Says Motive Was Assassination
According to an interview with the Wall Street Journal, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito stated he has a "pretty good idea" who leaked the court's draft judgment on a decision that would overturn Roe V. Wade. Even though Alito said he knew who was in charge, he added that his knowledge was "different from the level of proof that is needed to name somebody."
The leak, which Politico revealed on May 2, 2022, ultimately sparked months-long demonstrations in front of the houses of Supreme Court justices. In one instance, a guy with a gun was apprehended after admitting to police that he had gone to Virginia to kill Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
The leak was intended to prevent the decision and scare the court, Alito claimed on Friday, according to the Wall Street Journal. ""It was a component of a campaign to stop the...from becoming the court's ruling. And during those six weeks, it was how those on the outside used it as part of their effort to intimidate the court. said, Alito.
The steadfastly conservative justice continued to forcefully refute the idea that a conservative judge leaked the ruling, calling it "infuriating."
Alito continued, "Look, this made us assassination
targets. "Would I harm myself in that way? Would the five of us have
harmed ourselves in that way? It's really improbable. In reality, Justice Alito claimed, "those of us who
were thought to be in the majority and thought to have approved my draft
opinion were targets of assassination." "It was reasonable for people
to think that by killing one of us, they might be able to stop the decision in
Dobbs." Chief Justice John Roberts directed the marshal of the
Supreme Court to thoroughly investigate the leak last year. In January, the
marshal submitted her findings and ultimately conceded that a definitive
suspect has not yet been identified. “Investigators have been unable to
determine at this time, using a preponderance of the evidence standard, the
identity of the person(s) who disclosed the draft majority opinion,” wrote the
marshal in a report. Alito praised the marshal’s work on the probe,
saying that she “did a good job with the resources that were available to her.”
