Gunman opens fire at a busy US shopping mall north of the city of Dallas, killing at least eight and wounding seven others.
Police in the United States report that someone opened fire at a crowded shopping center north of Dallas, killing eight people and injuring at least seven others.
Police said on Sunday that the shooter, who they suspect was acting alone, was shot and killed by a police officer on Saturday after he started firing outside the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Allen, Texas, a suburb north of Dallas.
At a news conference earlier on Saturday, Brian Harvey, the
police chief of Allen, a town of approximately 100,000 people, stated, "He
heard gunshots, went to the gunshots, engaged the suspect, and neutralized the
suspect." Then, "he also called for ambulances," the witness
claimed. Maxwell Gum, a 16-year-old worker at a pretzel store,
recounted a virtual stampede of customers. He took refuge in a storage area
with other people. "We took off running. Children were being tramped on,
Gum claimed. "A four-year-old girl was picked up by my coworker and given
to her parents." The shooter was seen in a dashcam video becoming viral online
stepping out of a car and firing at pedestrians. The sound of more than thirty
rounds could be heard as the car that was filming the action accelerated. Jon Boyd, the chief of the Allen fire department, stated
that his team transported at least nine people who had been shot to local
hospitals. Boyd revealed at a second news conference on Saturday night
that two of the patients passed away at the hospital.
