Lance Reddick, ‘The Wire’ and ‘John Wick’ star, dies at 60
Reddick's agent Mia Hansen confirmed the actor's passing to
The Hollywood Reporter on Friday. He was most known for his numerous TV
performances in The Wire, Fringe, Bosch, Lost, and the HBO series Oz. Reddick
passed away at the age of 60 from natural causes.
Reddick has worked as a voice actor outside of television on
projects like The Vindicators, DuckTales, Rick and Morty, and Castlevania. He
then returned to the character of hotel concierge Charon in the newest John
Wick movie, John Wick: Chapter 4.
Reddick also participated in the SAG-nominated cast of
Regina King's One Night in Miami and contributed to the American Horror Story,
Corporate, and the Netflix Resident Evil series. Several Hollywood personalities paid the late actor homage
on social media after hearing the news of his passing. In a joint statement to THR, director Chad Stahelski and
lead actor Keanu Reeves paid tribute to the late actor, saying: "We are
terribly devastated and heartbroken at the passing of our great friend and
colleague Lance Reddick. He was a pleasure to work with and the epitome of
professionalism. His wife Stephanie, his children, family, and friends are in
our thoughts and prayers. We honor his memory by dedicating the movie to him.
He will be sorely missed. In a statement, Reddick's John Wick co-star Ian McShane
stated, "Complete shock and disbelief. Lance was a nice person and a great
coworker. My wife Stephanie and the rest of his family have my sincere
condolences. David Simon, the creator of The Wire, described her as
"a superb professional, a committed partner, a great soul, and a
friend" in a statement released to THR. For all of us who knew and loved
him, this is simply heartbreaking and far too soon to consider. Wendell Pierce, Reddick's The Wire co-star, described
Reddick as "a man of immense strength and elegance" on Twitter. He
was equally skilled as a musician as an actor. the pinnacle of elegance. An
unexpectedly sudden, sharply painful loss for our family of artists.
Unfathomable suffering for his own family and close friends. Best wishes, my
friend. Here, you left your mark. RIP.” The Wire star Isiah Whitlock Jr. also paid tribute. writing
on Twitter, “Shocked and saddened by the news that Lance Reddick has passed
away. Truly heartbreaking. R.I.P. My friend. You will be missed.” An HBO spokeswoman said in a statement that Lance has been a
member of the network's family for more than 20 years and has been in a number
of notable productions, such as Oz and The Wire. "He is held in the
highest regard by those who knew and worked with him and we are happy to be
part of his legacy. He will be sorely missed. Reddick was referred to by Ben Stiller as a "beautiful
and compelling actor" in addition to being a "wonderful person."He
was exceptional at everything he did. Nothing is lost," tweeted Stiller.
